Meaningful Non-Religious Funerals in Bedfordshire

Also in Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire

If a loved one has passed away and the thought of a religious funeral does not sit well with the outlook of life held by that person or by you, then a non-religious funeral is probably the right choice for you.

A non-religious funeral focuses on celebrating the life of the person who has passed away, sharing memories and saying goodbye to that person, but it also assists those who are in attendance to begin to come to terms with their loss in, hopefully, a positive manner.

Aidan Bartley: Funeral Celebrant at Your Service

My name is Aidan Bartley and I carry out non-religious funerals in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. I am a fully trained funeral celebrant.

Many people do not want a fully fledged religious service because the deceased loved one was not religious. You may desire a non-religious funeral for them. In addition, while you may not require a religious funeral, you may still wish to include a prayer, a hymn or a religious reading. The funeral can also be fully spiritual, without being religious. Funerals can be tailored exactly to your needs or the requests of your deceased loved one.

If these words fit with your outlook on life then I am able to assist you in the content of the ceremony for your loved one. The funeral director and undertakers will organise all of the logistics of the funeral, and I will be the person who will lead the humanist funeral ceremony at the crematorium and perhaps the burial site if burial is required.

Page three, What Happens at a Funeral, discusses the format of a ceremony at a crematorium including committal of the loved one if cremation is required, or interment if burial is chosen.

Readings and poems for non-religious funerals

Page four, Suggested Poems and Readings, contains some poems and readings which may help in selecting appropriate words for use at the funeral of your loved one. This list is short and represents only a few popular choices, but there are of course many more available.

Arranging your beloved's non-religious funeral ceremony

You may wish me to lead the entire ceremony or you may wish to include friends or relatives of the deceased who can speak about the deceased or read poems or readings. All of this is discussed at a family visit, which is the first thing we organise once you have contacted me.

I help arrange and lead non-religious and Humanist funerals in Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire. If you would like to arrange a funeral without religion,  the best way to contact me is by phone on 07458 985365.
